NRW & DEBT RECOVERY UNIT

Debt Recovery

The company has been grappling with huge debts resulting from unpaid bills which have accumulated for many years. This is despite tireless efforts by the company’s Revenue Department to institute several measures to combat the problem. These measures includes but not limited to setting up a Debt Recovery Unit(DRU) to partner with the Water Police Unit (WPU) which helps with enforcement. The company has also instituted an avenue for the customers with huge debt to enter into agreement on paying their debts in installments in a bid to recover their debts. The huge debts are threatening the financial stability of the company which if left unchecked, may paralyze company’s operations. Some of the huge debts are owed by the county government institutions with the largest share of their unpaid bills being from hospitals. With the help of the newly created Water Police Unit, the company is projecting to recover at least 80% of the debts.

Curbing Water Theft

The company has put in place remedial measures to curb water theft in a bid to tame the unforgiving Unaccounted For Water monster.
These includes engaging Water Police Unit, community sensitization and reporting, relocation of targeted service and main lines among others.

The company is targeting to bring down Non-Revenue Water to below 20% by the year 2026.

With the effort by the National Government through the Ministry of Water & Sanitation and Irrigation, County Government of Embu, Mbeere North Sub-county administration and Tana Water Works Development Agency, the company is projecting to install new main lines with an advanced class of pipes that are not prone to damage. This will enable the company to easily manage the menace.

In addition, the company has a fully fledged team of Non-Revenue Water Unit that is tasked in monitoring, assessing and reporting on the various damages and providing the immediate action to be undertaken to avert further loss. The team undertakes regular patrols along main lines and service lines on a fact -finding mission to collect relevant data necessary for analysis and action to be taken to the suspect.
